when the fair comes to town it officially feels like my birthday and summer. we usually head to the fair with my entire family to celebrate fathers day/my b-day; but this year we decided to change it up and make it to opening day since it looked as though our father’s day tradition would not be occurring this year. i love the fair, i love the carnies, i love the horribly fried food and i love making memories each year. it reminds me of my childhood and now seeing the excitement in payton just warms my heart. we met uncle al and aunt kathy there and quickly began taking payton from ride-to-ride, ran to decorate frisbees, rode an elephant, a pony, held “swifty” the pot-bellied swine, played a few games, ate a lot of food, listened to cobra starship in the tunnel and walked the fair over and over again. it was one of those evenings where i thanked jim for making me a mommy because i had a smile from ear-to-ear watching our family.
do you go to the fair? what’s your fav thing about it? or, your fav food to eat?
make sure to follow me via instagram.
riding “becky” the elephant.
my boys while looking at the livestock.
here’s a small glimpse of the food we ate, there were four adults and we all kept randomly purchasing food items. my fav’s were the fried cheese curds (for the second year in a row), the red velvet funnel cake and the cinnamon roll, which i was craving all day. yesterday al and kathy admitted that i was the first person ever to be the instigator of food for al. i would point something out and he would get it. it was so much fun.
miss p and the yumminess she had going on.
it was bittersweet seeing payton riding rides by herself. she is growing up so fast! as we were leaving the fair payton finally conked out and brayden was all smiles. aunt kathy purchased payton an LED bubble gun and jim couldn’t wait to try it out when we got home.
our happy little fam.
riding ruby. suz, we have another horse lover on our hands.
goodbye san diego fair.
on instagram peeps were asking me if we in fact ate all the food. no, we did not and we mostly shared between all of us and if we didn’t care for it, the trash it went. here’s a breakdown of what we ate/shared:
lobster roll (new to the fair this year, in kiddie land)
colossal corn dog – maybe five bites. the hot dog was gross. go for the smaller dogs or even better yet, the sweet potato corn dog.
fried spam – al took one bite and the trash it went.
deep fried jalapeño stuffed with baby ruth served on a bed of churros – amazeballs. seriously.
red velvet funnel cake – new this year. get it. thank me later. heck, take one home.
fire roasted corn – a tradition.
sweet potato fries
fried cheese curds – my #1 second year in a row hands town. make sure to add tapatîo.
veggie dog
cinnamon rolls – i saved calories all day for this.
cotton candy
i swear there was probably more but for the second year i didn’t get my fried snickers. we might have to go back once more on “taste of” day. gah! such a great evening.
