I don’t know how to write this review without spoiling anything. I have sat and pondered and hell, I have even cried. I keep telling myself that its just a movie but what the frick?! I am so thankful that Disney invited my husband and I to screen Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. The Star Wars franchise is one of our favorites so you can only imagine the level of stress and anxiety I had before the screening. I was so nervous and whispered to my husband during the previews that I felt like I was going to vomit. He just laughed at me. Throughout the entire 155 minutes my legs were shaking, I bit off three of my gel manicured nails and afterwards fell silent. I couldn’t even give my review because I didn’t and still don’t know what to say.
My goal while screening any film, even Star Wars is to make sure it’s not too mature for our children. They have seen every Star Wars film so what makes this one different? They are exposed to a lot of cursing, totally my fault so I didn’t flinch when a few bad words were caught in the film. There’s a lot of sarcasm which we love so that was cool. But this film was darker than the others. There was death, lots of action and honestly I was a mess. The one thing I will say, if you’re a Princess Leia fan, be prepared. They did such a fantastic job honoring her and honestly the entire film is a dedication to her. I had a surreal moment during the saddest part of the film. I was imagining Carrie Fisher standing looking into the theater at all of us watching her. I instantly got the chills and all the hairs on my arms stood straight up. I know, I am weird but I had to share this because it was so real.
The plot twist will make you want to stand up and shout but then it’s quickly deflated. I want to see more of this and pray that a new spinoff will arise from it. It’s a beautiful thing to watch and will give you all the feels. Was that vague? I hope so. But you will watch and totally understand what in the heck I am talking about. I pray you don’t walk out feeling like I did but I know you will. Unless you don’t like Star Wars then you will go about your day like nothing happened. For the rest of us Star Wars loving geeks out there, I feel your pain. Take the time you need to process it all and remember that the force will always live on. Tickets are selling out super fast so make sure you purchase your tickets ahead of time. Once you watch it come back here and drop a comment or chime in on my IG: @TreatsofDisneyland.
