first party of the summer
well, technically not “summer” but our first party. does this bother anyone else how memorial day always starts the saying, “it’s summer”. maybe for me since my birthday is the day after the summer solstice that truly means it’s summer. or, maybe i am just a weirdo. that’s probably it. yesterday we threw our first last minute memorial day barbeque. we had friends, family and new neighbors over for grilled yumminess, tasty desserts, fattening dip and a lot of beer and margies. the weather was gorg and the kids had a blast in the pool. i foresee a lot of parties in our future!
it’s a weekly thang! {weigh-in wednesdays}
last week i was on a high that i finally met a goal, god, that felt great, like really great! i made it to the park with the kids a few days and i started noticing that my jeans were really loose in my thigh area. at first i was peeved because i am sick of saggy jeans and wasting money on denim that i hope to never wear again. i was just getting ready to tell jim that i needed to purchase another pair when a light went off and said to go look in your denim drawer. i picked the first jeans on top, my true religion’s. i slipped them on and they fit, like i could actually button those suckers. i went running down the hallway, jumped in front of jim and said a nice profanity filled statement and squealed. it was a great feeling, a victory. you see, i have not been able to wear any of my old jeans since i was first preggo with payton. they have sat lonely in my bottom drawer, at least for now i can wear one pair, the rest will hopefully get some attention in a month or so. i leave you with a picture of my ass, just what you needed to get your wednesday off to the right start…
here we go ’round the mulberry bush {a recipe}
over the weekend we walked on over to our neighbor’s house, the aunt and uncle’s, and walked around the property looking at all of uncle al’s fruit trees. i had never been on one part of the property, which was weird after knowing them for twelve years and living there for three. there is absolutely every fruit tree you could imagine: papaya, tangelos, cherry, avocado, guava, banana and almonds just to name a few. but the really cool thing is that they have three mulberry trees. the largest one sits right as you enter their driveway but it’s a fruitless mulberry, hence, why i never thought mulberries ever existed until yesterday! when we walked around the front side yard we saw the fruit filled mulberry tree, and no, i did not trot around humming the childhood song. i was in awe, the fruit looked like colorful caterpillars hanging from the branch. the fruit tastes like a cross between a plum, blackberry and a fig, it was like nothing i had ever eaten before. uncle al and aunt kathy had picked all the ripe fruit earlier and had prepared it for grandmom phyllis and i to bake a pie. so that’s what we did and then we waited and waited for it to bake. it was heaven on earth, hands down the best pie i have eaten in a long time.
